HISTORY

Harry Samrick founded Mill Steel COMPANY in 1959 with little more than a phone, a desk and the idea that superior service and good business ethics could lead to success.

The culture Harry established has made Mill Steel one of the largest flat-rolled steel and aluminum distributors in North America. Now Harry’s granddaughter, Pam Heglund (CEO & Chairman), alongside fellow partners – Carl Quenneville (SVP & CCO), Joe Poot (SVP Purchasing), and Rob Vella (VP Operations) – continue to lead Mill Steel with steadfast dedication to superior quality, delivery, and performance.

Mill Steel operates six processing locations across the Midwest and Southern US, serving the automotive, construction, HVAC, appliance, and agriculture markets. With a revenue of $1.45 billion, Mill Steel earned the number 15 spot in Metal Center News’ annual “Top 50 Service Centers” list. The company is also among the top 15 top privately held enterprises in Michigan and is proud to be nationally certified as an Exceptional Women’s Business Enterprise (EWBE) by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council.

Mill Steel has repeatedly been named one of the 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For by the Michigan Business & Professional Association (MBPA). In addition, the MBPA has presented Mill Steel with multiple Elite Awards for its outstanding people-first culture. The company continues to grow by consistently operating with integrity and working towards one clear vision of being the industry leader in customer experience.
