Mill Steel Named as Finalist for American Metal Market’s Awards for Steel Excellence in the Category of Service Center of the Year

The American Metal Market’s Awards for Steel Excellence is one of the most prestigious and recognizable awards programs in the global steel industry. They celebrate companies large and small for achieving excellence in a number of areas. Now in its ninth year, the 2018 program will feature 16 distinct categories.

Winners are selected by a panel of judges with extensive steel industry leadership experience. Judges evaluate the nominations using a point-based qualitative approach to determine the winners. The nomination and judging process is audited by and in full compliance with Euromoney/Institutional Investor guidelines and standards to ensure integrity and objectivity.

Mill Steel is proud to be recognized as a finalist in the Service Center of the Year category. We look forward to the Awards dinner in June, where the winners in all categories will be announced.

Mill Steel Company Recognized as one of West Michigan’s 101 Best & Brightest Companies to Work For!

March 15, 2018 - Warren, Mich. — Every year companies throughout West Michigan compete to be named one of “West Michigan’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For®.” Only companies that distinguish themselves as having the most innovative and thoughtful human resources approach can be bestowed this honor. These select companies will be honored on Thursday May 3, 2018 at the JW Marriott in downtown Grand Rapids.

The winning companies also compete for 13 elite awards, one granted for each category. Also, an overall winner that has excelled in all categories will be honored with a “Best of the Best Overall” award. The elite award winners will be revealed during the luncheon.

Winners are pooled by the size of their company. Employers with 100 or less employees are benchmarked together and are classified as Small Business; 101-300 employees are benchmarked together and are classified as Medium Business; employers with more than 301 employees are benchmarked together and are classified as Large Business. All companies, no matter their size, can be a Best and Brightest Company to Work For® resulting in Better Business, Richer Lives and Stronger Communities.

An independent research firm evaluates each company’s entry based on key measures in various categories. They include Compensation, Benefits and Employee Solutions; Employee Enrichment, Engagement and Retention; Employee Education and Development; Recruitment, Selection and Orientation; Employee Achievement and Recognition; Communication and Shared Vision; Diversity and Inclusion; Work-Life Balance; Community Initiatives; Strategic Company Performance and the Best of the Best Small Business, Medium Business and Large Business. The annual symposium and awards program will begin with registration, networking and exhibit gallery preview at 9:30 a.m. followed by education & a community project. Mill Steel & DABSJ Named as Finalist in the WOOD TV 8 2018 Connecting with Community Awards!

We are excited to announce that the collaboration of Mill Steel and D.A. Blodgett –St. John’s has been named one of eight finalists in the Tenth Annual Connecting with Community Awards for our work on the Youth In Business program. Nominations are judged on how effective the organizations are at collaboratively working together to solve a problem or community based goal. Nominees are also judged on how well their efforts reach the community. Two additional factors taken into consideration are the uniqueness and overall impact of the collaboration.

The Youth In Business partnership will be featured in a Connecting with Community segment with Eva Aguirre Cooper during 24 Hour News 8 in the near future. Furthermore, our efforts will be recognized at the Connecting with Community Awards Celebration on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the Grand Rapids Art Museum in Grand Rapids.

Mill Steel Co. Gives $1,000.00 Tax Cut Bonus to all Full-Time Associates

Mill Steel Co., one of the nation's largest distributors of flat-rolled carbon steel, is pleased to award a $1,000 bonus to all 400 of its full-time associates following the tax cut passed by Congress and signed by President Trump.


Mill Steel announced this morning that all full-time associates across its nine operations nationwide, no matter each individual’s seniority, will receive a one-time bonus from the recent tax overhaul that reduces corporate tax rates.


David Samrick, Mill Steel CEO and Chairman, said, “We would not be where we are today without the dedication of our people. When afforded an opportunity like this, we are delighted to invest back into our hard working associates. As a result, we anticipate increased efficiencies across all operations.”


The company will continue to annually assess its compensation and benefit plan.
